DEAD RINGER by The Whiskey Gentry

DEAD RINGER BY WHISKEY GENTRY, DIRECTED, SHOT AND EDITED BY MATT ODOM.

When I heard this song the first time,  I immediately understood where it was coming from.   Hell, I know I've been guilty of comparing one artist to another, but I can only imagine how tiring it must be if you're an artist who's constantly being compared to someone else.  It's a long shadow you have to crawl out from under.    As Lauren said herself:

‘Dead Ringer’ is a song I wrote when I was about to turn 30 and everyone kept asking me questions about what my life plans were – babies, careers, etc,” says Morrow. “We’d been working our butts off for years to make this band successful and people would be comparing me to other singers on the radio: the whole ‘do you know who you sound like?’ thing.

I felt like we needed to poke fun at that,  so we picked some iconic artists that she get's compared to (Loretta Lynn in the 60's, Dolly Parton in the 70's, Reba in the 80's, Natalie Maines, and Shania Twain in the 90's) and did a little country music cosplay.   For as much as we had dressing up the band in period costume however, I wanted to make sure we wrapped the video reminding everyone that Lauren is in fact, just being herself.   She's as authentic as they come.  The Whiskey Gentry deserve your attention because they write and perform songs that hold up all on their own.
